8 killed in Zambia vehicle collision

LUSAKA, Feb 10 (NNN-Xinhua) — Eight people were killed after a truck collided head-on with a minibus in central Zambia’s Kabwe town, police said.

Donald Mwandila, central province police commanding officer, said the accident, which happened on Wednesday morning, also injuried 11 others.

Among the dead were four males and four females, Mwandila said, adding that the accident occurred when the driver of the truck failed to keep to his nearside and crash into the oncoming minibus.

The police chief said the injured have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

According to official data, Zambia recorded a total of 32,372 road accidents in 2021, which killed 2,163 people. — NNN-XINHUA
