WELLINGTON, Feb 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) – New Zealand reported 243 new community cases of COVID-19 today, said the Ministry of Health, in a statement.
Among the 243 new community infections, 165 are in the largest city, Auckland, 34 in Waikato, 21 in Northland, eight in Bay of Plenty, six in Hawke’s Bay, three in Nelson Marlborough, two in Tairawhiti, two in Wellington, and one in Whanganui and the Lakes region, each.
In addition, there are 26 new cases of COVID-19 detected at the New Zealand border.
The ministry reminded the public that, the Omicron variant is spreading in New Zealand communities, as people have seen in other countries. People are encouraged to take their booster jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible.
Ten COVID-19 patients are in New Zealand hospitals, with one person being treated at the ICU.
New Zealand is currently at the highest Red settings, under the COVID-19 Protection Framework. At Red settings, face masks become mandatory in many indoor environments and gatherings are limited to 100 people.– NNN-AGENCIES
