Jordan Rejects U.S. Decision To Recognise Israeli Sovereignty Over Golan Heights

AMMAN, Jordan, March 26 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, said that, the country rejects any decision that recognises the Golan Heights as Israeli territory.

The Golan Heights is an occupied Syrian territory, in line with all international resolutions, Safadi said in a statement.

Attaining peace in the Middle East requires ending the occupation of Arab territories, including the Golan heights, he noted.

The Jordanian minister said, the position of the international community on the Golan Heights is clear and in line with the UN Security Resolution 497, which rejects Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights.

On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a proclamation officially recognising the Golan Heights as Israeli territory.

Israel seized the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed it in the 1980’s, but the international community has never recognised the move.– NNN-PETRA
