Turkey’s Flag Carrier Evacuates 167 From Unrest-Hit Kazakhstan’s Almaty

ISTANBUL, Jan 12 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkish Airlines (THY), Turkey’s flag carrier, said yesterday that, it has evacuated 167 people from Kazakhstan’s Almaty, amid the unrest in the country.

A plane carrying THY flight attendants, private air freight company personnel, and some Turkish citizens, landed at Turkey’s biggest city Istanbul, yesterday afternoon, the carrier said, in a written statement.

THY began the evacuation, after obtaining necessary permissions from the Kazakhstan government and civil aviation authority, it added.

The THY press office said that, the company would resume its flights to Kazakhstan’s capital, Nur-Sultan, tomorrow (Jan 13), and talks are going on with officials about restarting scheduled flights to Almaty.

THY suspended all flights to Kazakhstan on Jan 7, after massive unrest erupted in the country.– NNN-ANADOLU
