Israel Logs Record-High Active COVID-19 Cases

JERUSALEM, Jan 9 (NNN-PNA) – The number of active COVID-19 cases in Israel hit a record-high of 106,107 yesterday, according to official figures.

It broke the previous national record of 95,583 cases, reported on Aug 31, 2021, said the country’s health ministry.

Meanwhile, the number of daily new cases, 18,780, set a new national record for the fourth consecutive day, pushing the country’s tally to 1,483,175.

With no new fatalities, Israel’s COVID-19 death toll remained at 8,259, and the number of patients in serious condition rose from 143 to 172.

Israel’s COVID-19 reproduction number indicator, also known as the R number, has registered a decline, from 1.96 to 1.95.

When the R number is greater than one, the patient count increases at an exponential rate.– NNN-PNA
