NEW DELHI, Jan 9 (NNN-PTI) – Elections will be held in five states between Feb 10 and Mar 7, in up to seven phases, India’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Sushil Chandra, said yesterday.
Elections are to be held in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa.
He added that, vote counting will take place on Mar 10. Most probably final results will be announced on the same day, as voting will be held through electronic voting machines (EVMs).
Uttar Pradesh, the biggest among all the five states, shall witness polls in all the seven phases, while Manipur will have voting in two phases, and the rest three states in one phase each.
Announcing the election schedules, the CEC said that, in the wake of sudden COVID-19 surge in the country, there shall be a complete ban on road-shows, bike or motorbike rallies, or even a march on foot by politicians or their supporters till Jan 15.
“A review meeting will be held on Jan 15, and, thereafter, decision will be taken, if public rallies could be allowed in the run-up to the Assembly elections,” said Chandra.– NNN-PTI
