WASHINGTON, March 23 (NNN- Yonhap) — U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun met with European officials in London this week to discuss the denuclearization of the regime, the State Department said Friday.

Biegun’s trip came after last month’s summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un failed to produce a deal on dismantling the regime’s nuclear weapons program in exchange for sanctions relief.

“U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun met with UK, French, and German counterparts in London March 19 to discuss coordinated efforts to advance the final, fully verified denuclearization of North Korea,” a department spokesperson told Yonhap.

Trump administration officials have said they are hopeful to continue negotiations with the North.

Last week, North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui threatened to abandon the talks, saying the regime has no intention to give in to Washington’s “gangster-like” demands.
