Urgent: Japanese Gov’t Says DPRK Fires What Appears To Be Ballistic Missile

TOKYO, Jan 5 (NNN-NHK) – The Japanese and South Korean governments said today, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), this morning, launched a projectile that appears to be a ballistic missile, towards the Sea of Japan, its first launch of a projectile since last Oct.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said, the launch took place at around 8:10 a.m. and its military was closely monitoring the situation in cooperation with the United States.

“It is presumed that it (the projectile) has landed outside our country’s exclusive economic zone,” Japan’s Defence Minister, Nobuo Kishi, told reporters. “What appeared to be a ballistic missile was launched from an inland (area in) North Korea towards the east.”

Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, said that, it is deplorable that North Korea has repeatedly launched missiles since last year.

“We will provide the Japanese people with the right information swiftly, by making best efforts in information gathering and analysis,” Kishida told reporters after the launch.
