SAO PAULO, Jan 5 (NNN-Xinhua) — Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is progressing satisfactorily after being hospitalized Monday with a partial intestinal obstruction, so he will not have to undergo surgery, according to Tuesday’s medical report from the Vila Nova Star Hospital in Sao Paulo.

“The intestinal sub-occlusion was resolved … with no surgical indication. The clinical and laboratory evolution of the patient continues to be satisfactory and a liquid diet will be started today (Tuesday),” the report said.

The decision not to operate was made by the president’s chief physician, Antonio Luiz de Macedo, who conducted a checkup on Tuesday morning.

However, Bolsonaro is not expected to be discharged yet, according to hospital information.

The Brazilian president began feeling ill after lunch on Sunday while in the state of Santa Catarina where he had celebrated the New Year.

Bolsonaro has already had bowel surgery four times as a result of a knife attack in 2018 during his election campaign. — NNN-XINHUA
