BEIRUT, Dec 12 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanon yesterday launched a two-day COVID-19 vaccination marathon, in hospitals all over the country, with the aim of accelerating vaccination, amid the recent increase in infections.
Health Minister, Firas Abiad said, the first marathon day succeeded with more than 20,000 people having been administered with the vaccine.
“We hope to see a higher number of vaccinated people on the second day (today) of the marathon,” he added.
According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, 59.6 percent of the population have registered for COVID-19 vaccination, with 39.3 percent having received their first shots, 34.2 percent their second shots and 10.5 percent their third booster shots.
Lebanon reported 1,790 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, raising the total tally in the country to 688,515, while the death toll went up by 12 to 8,836.
Abiad announced earlier this week, the detection of the first two cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, among passengers arriving at the Beirut airport.– NNN-NNA
