S.Korea Reports 7,022 More COVID-19 Cases

SEOUL, Dec 10 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea reported 7,022 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of midnight, compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total tally to 503,606.

The daily caseload was slightly down from 7,102, the previous day, but stayed above 7,000 for the third straight day.

The recent resurgence was attributable to small cluster infections in the Seoul metropolis.

Of the new cases, 2,786 were reported in Seoul residents. The number of the newly infected people living in Gyeonggi province and the western port city of Incheon was 2,022 and 463.

The virus spread also raged in non-metropolitan region. The number of new infections recorded in the non-capital areas was 1,712, or 24.5 percent of the total local transmissions.

The number of infections with the Omicron variant was 63, including 15 imported cases and 48 local transmissions, an increase of three from the previous day.

Thirty-nine new cases were imported from overseas, lifting the combined figure to 16,016.

The number of COVID-19 patients in a serious condition stood at 852, down five from the previous day.

Fifty-three more deaths were confirmed, bringing the death toll to 4,130. The total fatality rate was 0.82 percent.

The country administered vaccines to 42,871,274 people, or 83.5 percent of the population, and the number of fully vaccinated people was 41,568,595, or 81.0 percent of the population.

The number of people having taken their booster doses was 5,289,734, or 10.3 percent of the South Korean population.– NNN-YONHAP
