NEW DELHI, Dec 5 (NNN-PTI) – The death toll in the gunfire, in India’s north-eastern state of Nagaland, has risen to 13, officials confirmed today.
Many others were injured in the incident, which took place late last night, in the state’s Mon district.
The identity of the assailants and their objective of killing the people has not been known yet.
Officials said, a high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) will thoroughly probe this incident to ensure justice to the victims.
“Anguished over an unfortunate incident in Nagaland’s Oting, Mon district. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives,” Home (Internal Security) Minister, Amit Shah, tweeted.
The death toll is feared to rise further, local media reported.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio tweeted, “The unfortunate incident leading to killing of civilians at Oting, Mon district is highly condemnable. Condolences to the bereaved families and speedy recovery of those injured.”– NNN-PTI
