COLOMBO, Dec 3 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lanka’s health experts, warned of a dengue outbreak, as over 4,000 cases were reported in Nov alone, local media reported here yesterday.
According to official figures, a total of 4,561 dengue cases were reported in Nov, the highest in the past 20 months.
Dr. Shilanthi Seneviratne, from the National Dengue Control Unit, was quoted by the local media Daily Mirror as saying that, a dramatic increase in dengue cases was observed due to the incessant rains across the country within the last two months.
“We, as the Dengue Control Unit, have been monitoring the situation and taking relevant measures, like prevention programmes and educating the people, so that the damage could be mitigated,” Dr. Seneviratne said.
“People should also be alert of the fact that some symptoms, like fever and muscle pain, can be seen in both COVID-19 and dengue patients as well,” she added.
Dr. Seneviratne urged people to immediately seek medical advice before drawing to their own conclusions.
According to official figures, a considerable number of cases had been detected from the capital city Colombo and Batticaloa, in the Eastern Province.
Medical experts urged the public to seek immediate medical service, if they suffer high fever, uncontrolled vomiting, abdominal pain, or dizziness, among other symptoms of dengue fever.– NNN-XINHUA
