NEW DELHI, Nov 21 (NNN-PTI) – The Indian government provided 1.29 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to states, of which over 216.5 million jabs remain unutilised, officials said yesterday.
“More than 1.29 billion vaccine doses have been provided to states so far, through the government (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category,” a statement issued by the Health Ministry said. “More than 216.5 million balance and unutilised COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states to be administered.”
The ministry said, the federal government was committed to amplifying India’s vaccine coverage and expanding its scope to the far ends of the country.
“In the new phase of the universalisation of the COVID-19 vaccination drive, the union (federal) government will procure and supply (free of cost) 75 percent of the vaccines being produced by the vaccine manufacturers in the country to states,” the ministry said.
The nationwide COVID-19 vaccination started on Jan 16, for people above 18 years old.
Information provided by the Indian government said, until yesterday morning, over 1.15 billion vaccinations have been carried out in the country.– NNN-PTI
