Morocco rescues 331 illegal immigrants off coasts

RABAT, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) — The Moroccan navy rescued 331 illegal immigrants from Nov 12 to 15 off the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, the Moroccan news agency MAP reported.

A total of 248 illegal immigrants are Sub-Saharans, 80 are Moroccans, 2 are Asians and 1 is Sudanese, said the report, adding that they were facing difficulties aboard various makeshift boats.

The rescued were given necessary first aid in the navy units, before being brought safe and sound to the various ports of the North African county and handed over to the Moroccan Gendarmerie for the usual procedures, it added.

Morocco has become a transit country for African migrants seeking to reach Europe. — NNN-XINHUA
