GAZA, March 19 (NNN-WAFA) – Leaders of the popular protests in Gaza have called for a two-day general strike from Wednesday to keep up pressure on the Hamas authorities in their call for better living conditions in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The Youth Movement whose motto is “ we want to live” said in a statement that the protests will continue to force Hamas to respond to the just demands of the people for freedom, good life, and dignity.
It called on people to rally every day at four in the afternoon at squares and streets in the cities and to bang on pots and pans at eight in the evening of every night to make as much noise as possible.
The protests are the first to challenge Hamas’ 12-year rule of the Gaza Strip, which it took over in a coup against the Palestinian Authority.
Years of efforts for reconciliation between the two parts of the Palestinian territories have failed, augmenting, as a result, the dismal living conditions in Gaza. — NNN-WAFA
