LOS ANGELES, Nov 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ science fiction film “Dune,” took the top spot once again at the North American box office, with an estimated 15.53 million U.S. dollars in its second weekend, according to studio figures collected by measurement firm Comscore.
The film has grossed 69.4 million dollars in North America, after ten days of release.
Directed by French-Canadian filmmaker, Denis Villeneuve, the film, with a reported budget of 165 million dollars, is a big-screen adaptation of American author, Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name, one of the world’s best-selling science fiction novels of all time.
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man, born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe, to ensure future of his family and people.
The film has a star-studded ensemble cast including, Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian and Chinese actor, Chang Chen.
Inspired by its box office performance, a sequel for “Dune” has been greenlighted for a theatrical release in Oct, 2023.

Overseas, “Dune” took in an estimated 21.4 million dollars this weekend, pushing its international running cume to 222.7 million dollars for a global total of 292.1 million dollars.
The film earned 212 million yuan (around 33.1 million dollars) in China over ten days, according to the box office data, compiled by Maoyan, a Chinese movie-ticketing and film data platform.– NNN-AGENCIES
