One Dead, One Injured In Tunnel Construction Collapse In Central Japan

TOKYO, Oct 28 (NNN-NHK) – A collapse at the tunnel construction site of the Linear Chuo Shinkansen in central Japan, left one worker dead and one injured last night, police said.

The accident took place at around 7:20 p.m. local time, at the construction site of the “Seto Tunnel” in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, according to the police.

The collapse was reported to the fire department by a construction worker on site, when it occurred.

According to the police, two male workers were taken to hospital, one of whom died later, and the other was injured in the leg but remained conscious.

According to the Central Japan Railway Company, the “Seto Tunnel” on the Linear Chuo Shinkansen, a tunnel about 4.4 km long, started construction in Jan, 2019.

The police said, explosives were used to build a 600-metre tunnel, that links the Shinkansen for the use of emergency exit.

The police are currently investigating the situation in detail, with the railway company. NNN-NHK
