Explosion On Bus Kills Two In Central Uganda

KAMPALA, Oct 26 (NNN-IRIN) – Two people were killed yesterday, in the central Ugandan district of Mpigi, after an explosion on a bus, travelling from the capital Kampala, to the western district of Bushenyi, a police spokesperson said.

Faridah Nampiima, a traffic police spokesperson, said by telephone that, the two people died on the spot, while several others were injured.

“We don’t know the cause of the explosion but it happened at 5.00 p.m. local time. The bus was travelling from the capital Kampala, towards the western region,” Nampiima said.

“Our teams are on the scene of the explosion, investigating the cause of the incident,” Nampiima added.

Fred Enanga, a police spokesperson, said in a statement that, a team of bomb experts has been dispatched to the explosion scene.

“The scene has been cordoned off, pending a thorough assessment and investigation by bomb experts,” the statement said.

Ugandan police confirmed that, there was a bomb blast in the capital, Kampala on Saturday, leaving two people dead and others injured.

Police yesterday urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious characters.– NNN-IRIN
