Australia: 7 charged in large-scale cannabis bust

SYDNEY, March 19 (NNN-XINHUA) —Seven people faced court on Tuesday following a large scale cannabis bust involving over 80 officers in the Australian State of New South Wales (NSW).

An eight-month investigation led to the seizure of the drugs with a street value of up to 640,000 U.S. dollars.

Strike Force Bato was formed by NSW police in July 2018 to target the commercial supply of cannabis in several regions of the state.

Officers executed seven search warrants on Monday, seizing almost 100,000 U.S. dollars worth of cash, a Falcon V8 Supercar, a GTS HT Monaro, a further three cars, seven motorbikes, a tractor, and a quad bike, alleged to be the proceeds of crime.

Seven people, aged between 29 and 56, faced court on various charges relating to the illegal supply of drugs.

NSW police said they will allege that the operation resulted in the dismantling of an organized crime enterprise. — NNN-XINHUA
