MUMBAI, Oct 23 (NNN-PTI) – One person died, after a major fire broke out on the 19th floor of a high-rise building in central Mumbai, India’s financial capital, yesterday.
Footage on social media showed a man falling from the 19th floor of the building, that was engulfed in flames. The man, aged 30, a security personnel from the building, was killed and his body was brought to the city’s civic hospital.
Twenty-six people were safely rescued, and a probe has been ordered, said Mumbai Municipal Commissioner, Iqbal Chahal, on a tour to the residential tower, after cooling operations by firefighters.
The fire-brigade tagged it as “level-4” (major) fire, which was brought under control by 14 fire tenders, that were deployed to fight the blaze, in the 61-story, high-end luxury residential tower.
The cause of the blaze, primarily believed to be caused by a short-circuit, is being probed.
Residents said, the building reportedly has all fire-safety measures in place, and a mock-drill for fire incidents was conducted on Oct 1.– NNN-PTI
