NEW DELHI, Oct 17 (NNN-PTI) – Petrol and diesel prices rose to their highest levels in India, for the fourth straight day today.
The fresh price hike pushed the rate of petrol in India’s capital, New Delhi, to 105.84 Indian Rupees (1.41 U.S. dollars) per litre and diesel to 94.57 Indian Rupees (1.26 U.S. dollars) a litre.
In India’s financial capital, Mumbai, a litre of petrol costs 111.77 Indian Rupees (1.49 U.S. dollars) and diesel is 102.52 Indian Rupees (1.37 U.S. dollars) per litre.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, there was no change in the fuel rates.
Petrol price in most of the country is already above the 100-Indian-Rupees-per-litre mark, however, diesel rates also have crossed the 100 mark level in a dozen states.
In the eastern metropolitan city of Kolkata, petrol costs 106.43 Indian Rupees (1.42 U.S. dollars) a litre, and diesel is retailing at 97.68 Indian Rupees (1.30 U.S. dollars) a litre.
In the southern metropolitan city of Chennai, petrol is priced at 103.01 Indian Rupees (1.37 U.S. dollars) a litre, while diesel per litre costs 98.92 Indian Rupees (1.32 U.S. dollars).
Fuel prices in India differ from state to state, depending on the incidence of local taxes.
Reports said, the current surge is the 16th hike in gasoline prices and the 19th increase in diesel prices since the end of a three-week rate revision respite, in the last week of Sept.
The increase in domestic fuel price comes, on the back of international crude rates, which are at their seven-month high levels.– NNN-PTI
