Iran Reports 13,504 New COVID-19 Cases, 5,716,394 In Total

TEHRAN, Oct 12 (NNN-IRNA) – The Iranian health ministry reported yesterday, 13,504 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country’s total infections to 5,716,394.

According to an official release, the pandemic has claimed 122,868 lives in the country so far, after 276 new deaths were registered in the past 24 hours.

A total of 5,234,010 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 5,218 remain in intensive care units, the ministry said.

By yesterday, 45,748,724 Iranians have received their first doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 19,918,743 of them have taken two jabs.

The official report added, 33,350,660 tests have been carried out across the country.

On Sunday, an infectious disease specialist warned of a renewed surge of the pandemic in the following weeks.

“We will see an increase in the number of cases, hospitalisations, and even deaths, once more,” Payam Tabarsi of Tehran’s Masih Daneshvari hospital was quoted as saying, by the Young Journalists Club, a semi-official news website linked to the Iranian state TV.

According to the estimates by the Iranian health authorities, the new surge would start in late Oct, he added.– NNN-IRNA
