KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (NNN-Bernama) — The Global Peace Mission Malaysia (GPM) strongly condemned the suicide bombing that took place at a mosque in North Kunduz, Afghanistan, during Friday prayers, yesterday.
In a statement, the GPM said in Afghanistan’s still unstable situation after the Taliban government’s takeover on August 15, 2021, such actions will only increase the pressure on the Afghan community.
The act, which was reported to have killed nearly 100 people and injured hundreds more, was the second one during the GPM team’s stay in Afghanistan after the bombing at a mosque in Eid Gah in Kabul last Sunday that killed at least five people.
The GPM is currently in Afghanistan in an effort to deliver humanitarian aid to those directly or indirectly affected by the conflict. Also present was the Muslim Volunteer Malaysia (MVM) team.
In the meantime, the GPM also urged all parties involved to resolve disputes at the negotiating table and not to involve the safety and lives of the public.
“The Afghan people should be given the opportunity to live in peace and tranquility after going through almost four decades of conflict and instability.
“The world (community) must provide support in ensuring peace in Afghanistan, and by channelling aid in whatever form during these difficult times,” the statement said.
