BANGI (Selangor, Malaysia), Oct 8 (NNN-Bernama) — Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had signed a Decree to confer an honorary award in conjunction with ‘30 Years of Independence of Uzbekistan’ to a Malaysian academician for her contribution in strengthening Uzbek-Malaysian ties.
The recipient is Prof Dr Fariza Md Sham, the Director of Institute of Islam Hadhari (HADHARI) Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) (a Malaysian public university) .
UKM in a statement said the award was presented by the Uzbekistan Ambassador to Malaysia Ravshan Usmanov on Tuesday (Oct 5), in the presence of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs) of UKM Prof Dr Mohammad Kassim.
Fariza, who hails from Temerloh, Pahang, is a stellar academician who has received numerous accolades throughout her academic career.
She attributed her award to the university for providing a platform such as HADHARI that enabled her to collaborate with Uzbekistan.
In the statement, Usmanov said Fariza has been instrumental in strengthening Uzbek-Malaysian ties in education and culture by expanding collaboration between both countries’ research institutions.
“I’d like to acknowledge the ongoing fruitful partnership between HADHARI, Centre of Islamic Civilisation Uzbekistan and Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Centre.
“Together with UKM and HADHARI, we will continue to strengthen our collaboration in order to gain a better understanding of the Islamic civilisation’s legacy,” he said.
The award was established to highlight the contribution of joint venture to the development of Uzbekistan in ensuring peace and stability, inter-ethnic harmony and tolerance, education of the young generation as well as enhancing the international cooperation.
