MUMBAI, Oct 1 (NNN-PTI) – At least 29 students of Mumbai’s civic-run medical college have been tested positive for COVID-19, the city’s Mayor, Kishori Pednekar, said yesterday.
Of the 29 students, 27 of them have received one shot of vaccine, and it was unclear how the students contracted the disease, Pednekar added.
Two students have been admitted to civic-run Seven Hills Hospital, while the others, who were either asymptomatic or with mild symptoms, have been quarantined. An investigation is underway, said an official, who preferred not to be named.
The civic-run medical college, attached to KEM Hospital, has 1,100 students, and tests are being taken for all the students, the official said.
Contraction of the virus among students, comes a day after the Mumbai mayor announced standard operation procedures, for reopening of schools in the city, from Oct 4.
In the past 24 hours, the Indian financial capital reported 527 fresh cases of COVID-19, which exceeded the 500-case mark, after falling below the 400-case mark in the previous two days.
So far, India still has 277,020 active cases of COVID-19 with 448,062 deaths, according to the country’s health ministry.– NNN-PTI
