NEW DELHI, Sept 9 (NNN-PTI) – One person died and two others are still missing, in the tragedy involving two boats, in India’s northeastern state of Assam yesterday, Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, confirmed today.
“Rescue operation is going on in Majuli. As of now one death and two missing. Efforts are on to find out more information,” Sarma tweeted.
The boat tragedy had occurred yesterday evening, when two boats collided, following which, one carrying around 100 passengers capsized. Most people were rescued, even as one dead body could be recovered. Efforts are on to find two persons still missing.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had expressed grief over the boat tragedy, promising all possible efforts to rescue the passengers.
“Saddened by the boat accident in Assam. All possible efforts are being made to rescue the passengers. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being,” Modi tweeted yesterday.– NNN-PTI
