NEW DELHI, Sept 9 (NNN-PTI) – Several people went missing, after a boat capsized, following a collision with another one, in the Brahmaputra river, in India’s northeastern state of Assam last night, media reports said.
According to India’s English daily, Hindustan Times, the collision between the two ferries occurred between Kamalabari (Majuli), a river island in the Brahmaputra river, and Nematighat in Jorhat city.
The National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force, have started rescue operations, said the reports.
Meanwhile, federal Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal said, he has instructed the concerned authorities to offer help to the victims.
