TEHRAN, Sept 1 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran’s spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said yesterday that, two decades of U.S. “occupation” has only brought “death and destruction to Afghanistan.”
It is a historic opportunity now for Afghan leaders, to end the plight of their people, by ending violence and forming an inclusive government, Saeed Khatibzadeh tweeted.
He stressed that “Iran stands by the brotherly nation of Afghanistan.”
The U.S. Central Command announced on Monday, one day before the Aug 31 deadline set by U.S. President Joe Biden, the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan was completed, ending 20 years of a U.S.-led invasion of the country.
The Taliban welcomed the withdrawal, soon after the U.S. announcement, saying, the country “became completely free and independent.”– NNN-IRNA
