LIMA, Aug 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Sixteen workers of a Peruvian mining company were killed after the bus carrying the company’s employees crashed on Friday while going through the mines in Apurimac, Southern Peru.
Police said the bus carrying employees of the Las Bambas mining company overturned and fell 200 meters into the cliff. The exact location of the accident is the town of Huallpachaca in the province of Cotabamac, Apurimac region. In addition to 16 people who died on the spot, 2 others were injured.
Rescuers were at the scene to conduct rescue work and transport the injured to a medical center, while authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. For its part, the mining company Las Bambas confirmed that all the people involved in the accident were workers of contractor companies.
Peru is a country with frequent serious road accidents, where vehicles find it difficult to move on roads that have deteriorated in quality, due to careless or unprofessional driving to deal with the problems.
