TEHRAN, Aug 24 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran’s health ministry, yesterday, reported 38,657 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country’s total infections to 4,715,771.
The pandemic has so far claimed 102,648 lives in the country, after 610 new deaths were registered in the past 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, yesterday.
A total of 3,961,024 people have recovered from the disease, or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 7,695 remain in intensive care units, according to the ministry.
By yesterday, 16,986,882 people have received at least a dose of the COVID-19 vaccines, in the country, while 6,150,817 have taken two doses.
Health officials said that, reasons for the recent increase in infection rates, since the end of June, are the higher contagiousness of the Delta variant, currently spreading in Iran, and a decline in people’s awareness of observing health recommendations.
Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, has vowed, his first priority in the government is to control the COVID-19 pandemic and improve the health situation in the country.– NNN-IRNA
