UNIFIL Won’t Reduce Support For Lebanon

BEIRUT, Lebanon, March 14 (NNN-NNA) – The spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Andrea Tenenti, assured that, UNIFIL’s priority is to offer maritime and land support to the Lebanese Armed Forces.

“We will continue to work with the international community, to offer the needed support for the Lebanese Armed Forces,” Tenenti was quoted as saying.

Tenenti’s remarks came, one day after a UN senior official called for the increase in the number and capabilities of Lebanese maritime forces, which will enable the UN to gradually reduce the presence of its maritime forces in Lebanon.

“The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, did not mention any attempts by the UN to reduce its operational support for the Lebanese Armed Forces,” Tenenti said.– NNN-NNA
