Bolivia and Brazil to Sign Contract for Power Grid

LA PAZ, March 12 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — Bolivia and Brazil will sign a contract on March 15 to assess the geographic points where power interconnection lines between the two countries will be built.

The president of the Bolivian National Power Company (Ende), Joaquin Rodriguez, stated that research at a cost of 704,000 dollars will provide concrete ideas on the future energy export to Brasilia, a strategy jointly financed by that company, Electrobras and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Rodriguez explained that the study will last 15 months and will also establish the environmental impact of these interconnection lines, the relationship of the electrical grids of both countries and the most convenient technical solution to the difference in energy frequencies.

He announced that Bolivia and Brazil are currently carrying out an investigation to determine the hydroelectric potential of the Madera River, the nearest basin to the South American giant one, and preliminarily, a generation of around 7,000 megawatts is estimated.

He stressed that the collaboration between Ende and Electrobras demonstrates the Brazilian interest in interconnecting and importing Bolivian electricity. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
