GAZA, Aug 20 (NNN-QNA) – Qatar and the United Nations (UN) signed yesterday, a memorandum of understanding (MoU), to distribute Qatar’s cash grant to needy families in the Gaza Strip, a senior Qatari diplomat said.
Qatari Ambassador to Palestine, Mohammed al-Emadi, said in a press statement, he signed the MoU with Tor Wennesland, the UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace process.
“The cash aid will be disbursed to the beneficiaries through the UN World Food Programme (WFP), where about 100,000 needy families in the Gaza Strip will receive this aid per month, at the cost of 100 U.S. dollars per family in cash,” al-Emadi said.
He added that the Qatari committee will transfer the funds by the end of this month, and its distribution will start in Sept.
Since 2018, Qatar has sent hundreds of millions of dollars in cash, to the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, that has been under a tight Israeli blockade, since the Islamic movement’s takeover of the Palestinian coastal enclave in 2007.– NNN-QNA
