President Biya and wife Chantal
YAOUNDE, Aug 18 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Cameroon President Paul Biya and his wife returned to the Central African country earlier this week after over a month stay in Europe.
Biya and wife Chantal arrived at the Yaounde International Airport with the presidential delegation.
The couple were wearing mask and made the walk on a red carpet as a guard of honour was mounted for the president.
Amid social media jokes that the president had finally wore a mask as he returns from his European base – Geneva, Switzerland according to reports – to ‘visit’ Cameroon.
Local media said the president had only previously worn a mask once, during his sister’s burial.
Protesters reportedly thronged the Swiss hotel where he usually lodged calling for him to return home and solve the security crisis bedevilling the north and south western Anglophone region where a secessionist movement is facing off with state security forces. — NNN-AGENCIES
