LIMA, March 12 (NNN-ANDINA) — The Lima Group members expressed solidarity to millions of Venezuelans affected by a power blackout that has lasted over 50 hours and claimed the lives of at least 18 people in hospitals and clinics due to the lack of power supply.
In a statement, the governments of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and Peru indicated this power outage is one of the innumerable misfortunes the Venezuelan population has been facing for years.
According to them, this situation confirms the existence and magnitude of the humanitarian crisis Nicolas Maduro’s illegitimate regime refuses to acknowledge.
“We hold exclusively Maduro’s illegitimate regime responsible for the collapse of the Venezuelan electrical system,” a press release said.
Likewise, Lima Group reaffirmed support for opposition leader Juan Guaido as the interim president and the National Assembly.
Furthermore, the members ratified their commitment to the Venezuelan people seeking a solution to this crisis.
In this sense, they insisted only a legitimate government —chosen in free and democratic elections— will be able to rebuild institutions, infrastructure, and the economy so the Bolivarian nation’s population can regain their dignity, the exercise of their civil liberties, and the respect for their human rights after years of denial. — NNN-ANDINA
