HAVANA, Aug 15 (NNN-Xinhua) — Cuba exceeded 500,000 total COVID-19 cases, after recording 8,312 new infections in the last day, for a total of 500,216 cases, as well as 85 more deaths, to total 3,842 deaths, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

Of the new cases, 4.3 percent (360) were asymptomatic, the ministry’s national director of hygiene and epidemiology Francisco Duran noted, while highlighting the high levels of COVID-19 transmission from the new variants of the virus circulating on the island.

In addition, the expert said that 34 of the new infections were imported cases.

Havana reported 1,321 new COVID-19 infections, followed by Cienfuegos (1,142) and Holguin (586). 

BRASILIA: Brazil has registered 966 more COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising its national death toll to 567,862, the health ministry said.

The ministry said that the total caseload rose to 20,319,000 after 33,933 new cases were detected.

The ministry also reported 19,173,917 people recovered from the disease.

Brazil currently has the world’s second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States, and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India.

BUENOS AIRES: Argentina confirmed 8,472 new COVID-19 infections in one day, bringing the total to 5,074,725 cases, the Ministry of Health reported, adding that there were also 246 more deaths, for a total of 108,815.

The number of active COVID-19 cases was 240,484, while 4,725,426 people have recovered from the disease.

The percentage of intensive care unit beds was 51.3 percent nationwide, while in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area it was 49.6 percent, according to the official report.

The Argentine government has so far applied 36,387,897 vaccine doses against COVID-19, according to data from the Public Vaccination Monitor. — NNN-XINHUA
