Pakistan Celebrates 75th Independence Day Today

ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (NNN-APP) – On Pakistan’s 75th Independence Day today, Pakistan wears a festive look and people, despite the COVID-19 challenge, are celebrating the day by putting on white clothes with green stickers on them — colours of the national flag — decorating their houses, buildings with flags, leaflets and portraits of the founder of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

This national spirit is rejuvenated with the recent performance of two Pakistani athletes at the Tokyo Olympics, Arshad Nadeem and Talha Talib.

Arshad Nadeem made his presence felt by finishing fifth in the men’s javelin throw event. For many Pakistanis, though he did not secure the medal yet, he won hearts of the nation. So did weightlifter Talha Talib. Hailing from Gujranwala, the 21-year-old athlete almost tasted Olympic media glory, but ended the competition in fifth place.

At the government level, exhibitions, flag-hoisting ceremonies, seminars and change of guards at the mausoleums of the Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and Poet of the East, Allama Iqbal, mark the Independence Day celebrations.

A large number of families in Karachi and Lahore are visiting the Mazar-e-Quaid and the Mazar-e-Iqbal to pay their respects and offer Fateha (verses from the Holy Quraan), on Independence Day.– NNN-APP
