Indonesia Reports 30,788 New COVID-19 Cases, 1,432 More Deaths

JAKARTA, Aug 14 (NNN-ANTARA) – The number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 30,788 within one day to 3,804,943, with the death toll adding by 1,432 to 115,096, the Health Ministry said yesterday.

During the past 24 hours, 42,003 recovered patients were discharged from hospitals, raising the total number of recoveries to 3,289,718, according to the ministry.

Indonesia is implementing a multi-tiered community activity restriction scheme, known locally as PPKM, aiming to reduce the daily infections, and authorities have been intensifying contact tracing.

Yesterday, the country received another shipment of China’s Sinovac vaccine.

With the shipment, Indonesia now received nearly 200 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, the National Drug and Food Control Agency’s head, Penny Lukito, said, at a virtual press conference, adding that, the government continued to struggle to meet the need of vaccine stocks for the country’s national vaccination programme.

The government is targeting to vaccinate 208.2 million people, using vaccines produced by a number of pharmaceutical manufacturers. The vaccine is free of charge for all Indonesians.

To date, at least 26.43 million people in the country have received two shots of vaccines, and the number of those who have been injected with the first doses reached 52.61 million, the Health Ministry reported.– NNN-ANTARA
