Twitter has been banned in Nigeria since June 4, 2021
ABUJA, Aug 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Global social media giant, Twitter, have confirmed having talks with Nigeria’s federal government on a ban imposed on them in the country – Africa’s most populous.
A spokesperson in an email statement said no deal had been agreed with the government yet because talks were still ongoing.
“We recently met with the Nigerian government to discuss why Twitter has been blocked and ways to resolve the matter,” Twitter said.
“Our aim is to chart a path forward to the restoration of Twitter for everyone in Nigeria.
“We look forward to ongoing discussions with the Nigerian government and seeing the service restored very soon.”
Nigeria’s information minister, Lai Mohammed announced that the ban on Twitter will be lifted in a matter of days following talks.
According to him, Twitter has agreed to open an office in the country and to register with tax authorities as part of conditions for lifting the ban.
The ban was imposed on June 4 after Twitter deleted a tweet of president Muhammadu Buhari citing breach of their platform rules. — NNN-AGENCIES
