NEW DELHI, Aug 8 (NNN-PTI) – Unidentified gunmen yesterday shot dead a youth leader, in the northern Indian state of Punjab, police said.
The leader, identified as Vikramjit Singh Middukhera, was affiliated with the youth wing of Punjab’s main opposition party, Shiromani Akali Dal.
Middukhera was shot dead at Mataur market of Mohali district, about seven km west of Chandigarh, the capital city of Punjab.
“Today four masked gunmen attacked a leader of the Youth Akali Dal, by firing bullets on him from a point-blank range. He was killed on the spot, a police official told the media.
According to police, two of the four masked attackers chased Middukhera, before gunning him down.
Following the killing, police teams rushed to the spot to carry out investigation.
The video surveillance footage released to media showed the masked men rushing towards the victim, as he was boarding his car. Though he tried to escape, the men chase him and repeatedly fire bullets towards him.
“We have registered a case in this regard and ordered an investigation,” the official said.– NNN-PTI
