KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (NNN-Bernama) — Taiwan Expo 2021 is aimed to boost business opportunities between Taiwan and Malaysia with the participation of over 200 Malaysian businesses and more than 1,000 registrations for online business matchings.
Organised by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Bureau of Foreign Trade, the expo showcases interactive brand-new 3D virtual exhibition with products and technologies from 160 exhibitors in 10 themed pavilions across the pillars of electronic mobility, post-pandemic era, Industry 4.0, Taiwan lifestyle products, tourism and culture, and Halal Taiwan.
TAITRA chairman James C.F. Huang said Malaysia and Taiwan are both regional hubs in the semiconductor manufacturing industry and due to the pandemic, both nations are restructuring the supply chain to make them more resilient to future challenges.
“Hence, our expo highlights this year are forward-looking and focus on the way we will live in the immediate future.
“For instance, e-mobility, electric vehicles and self-driving costs are expected to become a crucial part of our everyday life and Taiwan will help drive this future,” he said in a virtual launch of the Taiwan Expo 2021 today.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) deputy chief executive officer Sharimahton Mat Saleh said Halal Taiwan is one of the expo’s industry highlights this year and this demonstrates Taiwan’s interest in contributing to the halal industry eco-system.
“With greater awareness of halal-related matters and conversation in Taiwan, Malaysia’s halal businesses in food and beverages (F&B), pharmaceutical, cosmetics, healthcare and other related products and services are expected to spark the interest of Taiwanese companies,” she said in a video presentation in conjunction with the launch of the expo.
She also said MATRADE will be organising the 17th edition of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) from Sept 9-31 this year.
“We are able to organise MIHAS vigorously with the support from Taiwan and other countries around the world.
“With the support, MIHAS will evolve into a modern, innovative, interesting and interactive international gathering in a digital format,” Sharimahton said.
Meanwhile, Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bureau of Foreign Trade director-general, Cynthia Kiang said Malaysia is currently Taiwan’s seventh-largest trading partner.
“Since 2017, the first year that we had the Taiwan Expo in Malaysia, both sides have maintained a close relationship.
“Bilateral cooperation will speed up the Malaysia Industry 4.0 initiative while the expo is a suitable platform for Malaysian businesses to know more about Taiwanese products and services,” she said.
Malaysia Friendship and Trade Centre, Taipei president Sharon Ho Swee Peng said the expo is an excellent digital platform for Taiwan exhibitors and businesses to showcase their products and services under key industry themes.
“As Malaysia aspires to become a digital economy hub, we look forward to having more information and communications technology collaborations with Taiwan and welcome more investment in high value-added technologies,” she said.
