BANGKOK, Jul 30 (NNN-TNA) – Thailand yesterday reported 17,669 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, and 165 more fatalities, both setting all-time high records, since the start of the pandemic.
The new numbers took the country’s caseload and deaths to 561,030 and 4,562, respectively, according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
Nearly a quarter of the new infections were recorded in Bangkok, which has been the epicentre of the long-lasting outbreak since Apr, when the latest wave of the virus hit the capital.
As of Wednesday, Thailand administered around 16.6 million doses of vaccine, with over 3.7 million of its nearly 70 million population having been fully vaccinated.
The World Health Organisation’s Thailand office said yesterday that, vaccination alone is not sufficient to fight COVID-19 and its variants, urging citizens to apply all effective measures, like using masks, social distancing and avoiding crowds.– NNN-TNA
