Five More U.S. Soldiers, Seven Civilians In S. Korea Test Positive For COVID-19

SEOUL, Jul 27 (NNN-YONHAP) – Five more U.S. soldiers and seven relevant civilians in South Korea, tested positive for COVID-19, the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) said today.

The USFK said in a statement that, 12 USFK-affiliated individuals were confirmed with the COVID-19 between Jul 14 and 26.

Two service members at Camp Casey and three service members at Osan Air Base tested positive on Jul 14, 24 and 25, after developing symptoms.

A U.S. Department of Defence (DoD) civilian, and four family members of a different DoD civilian at K-16, one family member of a service member at Camp Carroll and one family member of a service member at Osan Air Base, tested positive between Jul 24 and 26, during a contact-tracing process.

The confirmed patients have been transferred to designated isolation facilities at the U.S. army bases here. Among them, one individual who tested positive on Jul 14 has been released from isolation, the USFK said.

The total number of infections among the USFK-affiliated personnel rose to 1,131. The surge in confirmed cases among U.S. troops came amid the COVID-19 resurgence.

In the latest tally, South Korea reported 1,365 more cases of COVID-19 for the past 24 hours, lifting the total number of infections to 191,531. The daily caseload hovered above 1,000 for three straight weeks.– NNN-YONHAP
