Covid-19: Brazil registers 1,108 more deaths, 38,091 new cases

BRASILIA, July 25 (NNN-Xinhua) — Brazil registered 1,108 more COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising its national death toll to 549,448, the Ministry of Health reported.

Additionally, another 38,091 new cases were reported in the same 24 hours, bringing the total caseload to 19,670,534.

The country saw a decrease in cases, deaths, and hospitalizations in the last week of June, which can be directly linked to the advance of the vaccination campaign that began on Jan 17, according to epidemiologists.

In Brazil, 94.45 million people, accounting for 44.6 percent of the population, have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 37 million people, or 17.4 percent of the population, have been fully vaccinated.

SANTIAGO: Chile reported 1,407 new cases and 83 deaths from COVID-19 on Saturday, for a total of 1,607,749 infections and 34,958 deaths.

A total of 1,776 people are currently hospitalized in intensive care units, of which 1,413 are on ventilators.

The Ministry of Health reported that cases have fallen by 47 percent in the last 14 days and 30 percent in the last seven days at the national level.

The ministry said that the regions with the highest average positivity are Los Rios, Atacama, Araucania, and the Santiago Metropolitan region.

BOGOTA: Colombian President Ivan Duque confirmed on Saturday that the Delta variant of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is circulating in the country.

“The National Institute of Health has identified the presence of the Delta variant in our country in a case that was subjected to examination in the city of Cali and that has already been treated with all medical protocols,” he said.

Duque called on citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible, adding that this variant currently has a presence in 105 countries around the world and has been proven to have a higher level of transmissibility.

According to the Ministry of Health, Colombia has reported 4,705,734 cases and 118,188 deaths from the disease, while more than 11 million people have been fully vaccinated. — NNN-XINHUA
