Turkey’s Daily COVID-19 Cases Exceed 11,000, Highest Since May

ANKARA, Jul 24 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkey’s daily COVID-19 cases jumped to 11,094 yesterday, the highest count since May.

“We should turn from flexibility to strict precautions and have our first doses of vaccine immediately,” Turkish Health Minister, Fahrettin Koca, tweeted yesterday.

Turkey lifted its restrictions on Jul 1, and has seen a rapid surge of infections in the past week. According to the health ministry, the country’s total infections reached 5,574,997. The death toll rose by 60 to 50,821, while 5,215 more people recovered, in the last 24 hours.

A total of 219,528 tests were conducted over the past day, it said.

Turkey started mass vaccination against COVID-19 on Jan 14, after the authorities approved the emergency use of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine.

More than 39.26 million people have received their first doses of the vaccine, while over 22.05 million have taken their second doses. Turkey has so far administered over 65.05 million doses, including third booster jabs.– NNN-ANADOLU
