NEW DELHI, Jul 19 (NNN-PTI) – A few persons died and several went missing, after heavy rains lashed parts of northern India, including Delhi, during the past 12 hours, media reports said today.
While three persons died and several went missing, after cloudburst hit the northern state of Uttarakhand, as a result of heavy rains, a few houses and other buildings also got swept away in the gushing waters.
One person died in a building collapse last night, in the northern state of Haryana, adjoining Delhi. The deceased was a labourer and reportedly lived in the dilapidated building that was used as a warehouse.
Overnight rains caused water-logging and slow traffic in Delhi and surrounding areas, including parts of neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Huge water-logging in several parts of Delhi is most likely to affect office goers, in and around Delhi, on the first day of the week (today). Indian Parliament’s Monsoon Session also begins during the day in Delhi.
Last week, a cloudburst hit the northern hilly state of Himachal Pradesh, wreaking havoc and causing many deaths.
On Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of heavy rains and landslides in the country’s northern hilly state of Himachal Pradesh, over the next three to four days.– NNN-PTI
