DHAKA, Jul 17 (NNN-BSS) – As the holy Eid al-Adha is drawing near, cattle markets in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, have been brimming with sacrificial animals.
Bangladesh, on Jul 21, will celebrate Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice.
Like in previous years, a large number of animals were seen at cattle markets here.
“I think the price is within the reach,” said Jahangir Alam, a buyer.
Traders expect a mad rush for customers from tomorrow night, as buyers in Dhaka usually collect animals on the last days, with the hope for price cuts.
Cattle trader, Md Jobed, came to the Gabtoli market from Chakaria area, in Cox’s Bazar district, some 292 km south-east of the capital, Dhaka. He said, demand and price are always good at the Gabtoli market.
“That is why I have come to this market with good hopes,” said the trader.
Another trader, Shah Alam Miah, came from Bangladesh’s Jhenaidah district, about 130 km from the capital Dhaka, with a bull, named Juboraj, or Prince.
The trader said, Prince weighs 2,200 km and priced of about 35,000 U.S. dollars.
Authorities approved at least 21 cattle markets, to help Dhaka residents purchase sacrificial animals in designated spots, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bangladeshi government eased the lockdown for a week from Jul 15, allowing Muslims to prepare for the festival.– NNN-BSS
