Indonesia Reports Record COVID-19 Deaths Of Over 1,200

JAKARTA, Jul 17 (NNN-ANTARA) – Indonesia yesterday recorded 54,000 newly-confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 1,205 new deaths, in the past 24 hours, the country’s Health Ministry said.

Based on the latest data, the total number of cases in the country is now at 2,780,803, while the COVID-19-related death toll increased to 71,397.

The virus has spread to all the country’s 34 provinces, and the more transmissible virus Delta variant, has contributed to the surges in COVID-19 cases in some of the regions.

Specifically, in the past 24 hours, Jakarta recorded 12,415 new cases, West Java 10,730, East Java 7,832, Central Java 4,188 and Banten 3,680.

Indonesia is accelerating the vaccination programme, in a bid to suppress the rising trend of the COVID-19 transmission rate in the country.

Yesterday, the country received more shipments of the AstraZeneca vaccine and the Sinopharm vaccine, bringing the country’s supply of vaccines to 142.72 million doses.

The country’s Health Ministry started to inject the third doses of COVID-19 vaccine, to healthcare workers, using the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine yesterday.– NNN-ANTARA
