DHAKA, Jul 12 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladesh witnessed a double record yesterday, registering 11,874 new COVID-19 cases, and 230 related deaths in just 24 hours, according to figures from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the newly reported fatalities, the death toll in the country has reached 16,419.
The country has seen an upsurge in COVID-19 infections for more than a month now, raising its total tally to 1,021,189 yesterday.
The official data showed that 40,015 samples were tested across Bangladesh yesterday.
The total number of recovered patients rose to 874,501, including 6,362 new recoveries reported yesterday, said the DGHS.
According to the official data, the COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is currently 1.61 percent and recovery rate is 85.64 percent.
To curb the transmission, Bangladesh entered a strict one-week COVID-19 lockdown on Jul 1, which has subsequently been extended till Jul 14, and army personnel have been deployed, to patrol alongside civilian forces, to maintain law and order.– NNN-BSS
